It is Turkey’s Time Without Erdogan

On the 24th of June, by the decision of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Turkey is holding presidential and parliamentary elections. This elections are unarguably the most important in the modern history of Turkey, as they follow the constitutional referendum by the results of which the new president will hold sweeping executive powers in the country. And the dictator Erdogan plans, of course, to be the one.

“It is Turkey’s Time” state the official slogan of Erdogan’s presidential campaign. Undoubtedly, it is Turkey’s time, say FEMEN. It is Turkey’s time for freedom, Turkey’s time for human rights, Turkey’s time for justice, it is Turkey’s time for pluralism and democracy. And therefore, IT IS TURKEY’S TIME WITHOUT ERDOGAN!

Since 2 years, after the attempted military coup against the government, many of turkish citizens were stripped of their dignity, security and fundamental rights by the triumphed dictator Erdogan. In response to the coup, the true origins of which are still unknown, Erdogan have radically changed his domestic and foreign policies, now, without hesitation, appearing in front of the world as a new dictator. The people in the country are the ones who have suffered the most as their fundamental right for freedom of conciseness and speech is suppressed. As a result of the ‘state of emergency’, called by Erdogan, 107000 people were dismissed, including soldiers, judges, journalists and teachers. The reason for dismissal is only one: they don’t support Erdogan. As of today, from 100000 appeals, only 1000 people were given permission to get back to work. Here, the cruelty of Erdogan’s regime and his will to suppress people’s freedom of consciences and speech doesn’t end as more than 50 000 are currently imprisoned awaiting to be put on trail.

In Erdogan’s Turkey, journalists, teachers, judges, lawyers are suppressed for doing their job, secularists, feminists, human rights activists for expressing their ideas and defending humanist values, kurds for claiming their identity and right to exist… Erdogan’s repressive regime must end with the coming elections. Turkish people demand their dignity and freedom back!

As today’s Turkey doesn’t only suffer from the deprivation of human right, but also from currency and economy suffering which only confirms the failure of Erdogan as a leader, the time for changes has come. Fearing the national uprising and the loss of his popularity, Erdogan have called for early elections, hoping to draw attention from his failures and capitalise on nationalist sentiments after the recent military action in Afrin, Syria. However, it is too late now. The time has come, and it is Turkey’s Time Without Erdogan!
